The workshop on “Outcome-Based Education: Bloom’s Taxonomy and Mapping and Attainment” was conducted to enhance participants’ understanding of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), the integration of Bloom’s Taxonomy in curriculum design, and methods for mapping and assessing learning outcomes. The workshop aimed at empowering educators to apply these concepts for better course planning and student assessment.

Session I: Role of Bloom’s Taxonomy in Curriculum
Resource Person: Dr. Bhakti Mahindrakar
Dr. Mahindrakar introduced Bloom’s Taxonomy as a foundational tool for designing learning outcomes. The session focused on how the taxonomy’s six cognitive levels—Remember, Understand, Apply, Analyze, Evaluate, and Create—help instructors develop clear and measurable outcomes. Participants learned how to align their course objectives with these cognitive levels to enhance teaching and assessment strategies.
Session II: Attainment and Mapping of the Course
Resource Person: Mr. Suleman Hattarkihal
Mr. Hattarkihal focused on the practical aspects of mapping learning outcomes to course content and assessments. He explained how to align course objectives, content, and assessments to ensure that learning outcomes are effectively achieved. The session also covered techniques for assessing attainment of learning outcomes using direct and indirect assessment methods, with an emphasis on continuous assessment.
- Bloom’s Taxonomy is essential for structuring learning outcomes at varying cognitive levels, helping instructors create clear, measurable goals.
- Course Mapping ensures alignment between content, teaching methods, and assessments, which is crucial for Outcome-Based Education.
- Attainment Assessment involves both direct and indirect methods to evaluate whether students are meeting the intended learning outcomes, with rubrics playing a vital role in this process.
Principal Dr.Y.Tammanna, in his presidential remarks, expressed his gratitude to the distinguished resource persons, Dr. Bhakti Mahindrakar and Mr. Suleman Hattarkihal, for their valuable contributions to the workshop. He emphasized the importance of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) in today’s dynamic academic environment, where students’ learning outcomes must align with both industry needs and academic excellence.
He acknowledged the role of Bloom’s Taxonomy in shaping clear, measurable, and progressive learning outcomes, helping educators provide structured learning paths for students. He also highlighted how effective course mapping and attainment assessment strategies ensure that students are acquiring not just knowledge, but also critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential in the real world.
He encouraged faculty members to take full advantage of the insights shared during the workshop and integrate these practices into their curricula, thereby improving the overall quality of education at the institution.
