The Department of Statistics celebrated the 17th National Statistics Day on the occasion of birth anniversary of Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis and also organised “Two Day State Level Workshop” from 03-07-2023 to 04-07-2023 on Research Methodology to honor the late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis’s work in the field of Statistics and his contribution as a member of India’s first planning commission. On this occasion, Dr.Mallalppa D , Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, Bangalore University, Bangalore delivered a brief account of P.C. Mahalanobis’s life, his work, achievements, and he is called as the Father of Indian Statistics. He also highlighted the significance of celebrating his birth as National Statistics Day in India and raised awareness about the importance and opportunities of statistics in various competitive fields.
Furthermore, on the second day of the workshop, Dr. Fayyaz Ahmed H Illkal, Assistant Professor and Local Head of Department of Studies and Research in English at Rani Channamma University PG Centre, Toravi, Vijayapur, spoke on the topic of “Citation and Referencing Styles.” He emphasized the importance of research, citation
and discussed different styles of referencing such as MLA, APA, Chicago.Shri SharanPatil anchored the programme,ShriPrabhulingGunjetti introduced and welcomed the guest. Principal Dr.TammannnaY Presided over the function.IQAC Co-ordinator Dr. JayashreeBerappa, Hod of English Prof Prabhuling.S.Tolanur, Mr. Gururaj Kulkarni, and Dr. Srinivas A.T along with 39 Students and 22 Teaching Staff were attended the programme.
