Department of Political Science, NSS Units 1 and 2, and the YRC of BLDEA’S Smt. Bangaramma Sajjan Arts, Commerce, and Science Women’s College, on January 24, 2025, organised and celebrated National Voters’ Day.

Under IQAC intiative Department of Political Science, NSS Units 1 and 2, and the YRC of BLDEA’S Smt. Bangaramma Sajjan Arts, Commerce, and Science Women’s College, on January 24, 2025, organised and celebrated National Voters’ Day. The event was held at 11:00 AM in the college auditorium.
The resource person for the event, Prof. I.S. Kalappanavar, Administrative Officer, S.S. Campus, Vijayapura, emphasized the significance of voting as a fundamental right and duty. He highlighted the purpose of National Voters’ Day as a means to spread awareness about voting. He stressed the importance of informed and responsible voters in building a stronger India and urged every eligible individual above 18 years to register and exercise their right to vote.
Principal, Dr. Y. Tammanna, presiding over the event, expressed concern about the declining voter turnout among the educated populace. He underlined the need for increased participation in elections.
The Head of the Department of Political Science, Ms. Rekha Gadagi, elaborated on the pivotal role of youth in increasing voter participation. She urged young individuals to actively engage in the electoral process.
Dr. Savita N. Lamani, NSS Unit 2 Officer and Head of the Kannada Department, administered the National Voter’s Pledge, reinforcing the responsibilities of every citizen as a voter.
As part of the celebrations, an essay competition on the topic “Importance of Voting in a Democracy” was conducted on January 23, 2025. Students who secured the first, second, and third positions were awarded certificates during the event.Prominent attendees included:

The event was attended by 30 teaching and non-teaching staff members and 108 students. Senior faculty members like Prof. P.S. Tolanur (Head of the English Department), Dr. Jayashree Beerappa (Commerce Department), and Ms. Soujanya Bilagi (Political Science Department) were also present, contributing to the program’s success.
The National Voters’ Day celebration served as an impactful platform to encourage active participation in the electoral process, highlighting the importance of voting as both a right and a responsibility.
