Department of Economics & Statistics organized TED Talk on “P C Mohalnobis” On July 8, 2024, the Department of Economics & Statistics at BLDEA’s Smt. Bangaramma Sajjan Arts, Commerce & Science College in Vijayapur held a TED Talk on the esteemed Indian statistician, P C Mahalanobis. The event, which took place at 11:30 AM, saw attendance from Dr. Y Tammanna, Principal; Dr. A T Srinivas, Head of the Department of Statistics; Mr. Suleman M Hattarakihal, Head of the Department of Economics; Mr. Manjunath Myageri, Faculty of the Department of Statistics; along with 65 students. The talk shed light on Mahalanobis’s major contributions to statistics, such as the Mahalanobis Distance and his pivotal role in founding the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI). It also covered his impact on India’s second five-year plan and his broader contributions to economic planning. Dr. Y Tammanna commended the organizing committee’s efforts, noting that the talk was both informative and inspiring, successfully achieving the goal of educating and motivating the audience about Mahalanobis’s legacy.
