Vijayapura: Knowledge of various languages broadens a person’s thinking and understanding, opined Prof. Namadev Gouda, Chairman, Department of Hindi, Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University, Vijayapura. Delivering a special lecture on ‘The Role of the Hindi Language in South India’ on the occasion of Hindi Day celebrations at Smt. Bangaramma Sajjan Arts, Commerce and Science Women’s College, run by B.L.D.E. Institution, he said Hindi is a language of contact that works to unite everyone. It is futile to create controversy over language, because every language has its own dignity and deserves respect.
Inaugurating the program, he said Hindi works to connect people as a link language in South India. In this way, Hindi becomes an important language promoting national unity.
In his introductory speech, Head of the Department of Hindi Dr. Sunil Kumar Yadav said communication becomes easier through Hindi and mutual understanding increases. It does not erase any language but moves forward together with all. Therefore, Hindi is called the language of unity and brotherhood. On the same occasion, the book ‘Bharatiyata in Contemporary Hindi Literature’ was released by the guests. Dr. Shakuntala S. Patil said on the occasion that contemporary literature highlights Indian values and culture. In her presidential address, Dr. Y. Tamanna said Hindi is not opposed to any language but is a contact language that connects everyone. Every language has its own importance. Learning Hindi opens new opportunities in employment, education, and communication. On this occasion, the guests on the dais distributed certificates to the winners of the speech and poster exhibition competitions. Dr. Bhakti Mahendrakar, IQAC coordinator, introduced the guests. Kumari Amulya Devur compared the program. Kumari Keerti Kuchanur sang the institutional song. Madhura Pethkar welcomed the guests. Dr. Meraj Begum proposed the vote of thanks. All the faculty members and students of the college were present at the program.
