“Sustainability, Human Values and Education”
BLDEA’s Smt. Bangaramma Sajjan Arts, Commerce and Science College for Women, Vijayapur, the Department of Education, under the initiative of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a special lecture on “Sustainability, Human Values and Education” on 18 September 2026. The programme was organized with the objective of creating awareness among students about the importance of sustainable living, human values and the role of education in building a responsible and ethical society.
The programme began with a warm welcome to the resource person, faculty members and students. The Department of Education briefly introduced the theme of the special lecture and highlighted its relevance in the present educational and social context.
Prof. Mallikarjun M., the Resource Person, delivered an informative and thought-provoking lecture on “Sustainability, Human Values and Education.” He explained the meaning and significance of sustainability and emphasized that sustainable development is not limited to environmental protection but also includes social responsibility, ethical conduct and the judicious use of resources.
He elaborated on the important role of human values such as empathy, compassion, honesty, responsibility, cooperation, respect and social commitment in creating a sustainable society. He emphasized that education should not merely provide academic knowledge and professional skills but should also develop character, ethical awareness and a sense of responsibility among students.
The resource person further explained that students are important stakeholders in creating a sustainable future. He encouraged them to develop environmentally conscious habits, avoid unnecessary wastage of natural resources, protect the environment and participate actively in community-orientated activities. He also highlighted the importance of integrating values and sustainability into everyday educational practices.
Prof. V. S. Nandesh, who presided over the programme, delivered the presidential remarks. He emphasized that education is a powerful instrument for bringing positive transformation to individuals and society. He stated that sustainable development can be achieved effectively only when knowledge is accompanied by human values, ethical responsibility and concern for the environment.
